Our lab focuses upon freshwater springs, Zooplankton, and the ecological and evolutionary genetics involved. The lab focuses on the Chihuahuan Desert zooplankton and their adpation and genetic variation in selected species, investigating reproduction patterns,
diapause induction or termination. The lab's current projects center on molecular phylogenetics, life history evolution, and
environmental toxicology, specifically examining the impacts of heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, and personal care products in freshwater ecosystems.

Aaron Robbins is a PhD student in the ecology and evolutionary biology program at UTEP. He is primarily focused on rotifer genomic studies and the relationships between toxicant exposure and differential gene expression, and respirational changes. In addition, he is currently working on a project involving cryptic species complexes of rotifers in the southwestern Chihuahuan desert.
